2021/2022 Sailing Season Completion

The Supported sailing season has now finished up for Sailability WA, which was the last week of April a few days after Anzac Day. Reflecting on the summer that was, over the last 7 months of our supported sailing season Sailability WA ran 38 sailing events, over 24 weeks, on a Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

We estimate that’s approximately 1,748 volunteer hours to support people with disabilities to sail in and around Matilda Bay!! Wow, will just let that last sentence and piece of information sink in for a bit!

A massive thank you to volunteers older and newer that lent their time and enthusiasm to the act, belong, commit, supported sailing program (sponsored by Healthway). It was a challenging start to 2022 with COVID creeping closer onto our doorstep, however with masks and a small supply of hand sanitiser, lots of checking in, and a few short notice roster substitutions, we made a whole Summer season happen without impacting the participants that sail with us.

As a small thank you for a whole season of sailing we held a volunteer morning tea on the 2nd of May after the season had closed, with some healthy food options to share and a vast array of tea and coffee options. Participant feedback was also shared with the group about being part of the supported sailing season that was. A few snaps from the volunteer’s morning tea are highlighted here, it just goes to show that sharing a love of sailing can happen at any age.
